The city of Kenosha will enact a nightly 7 p.m curfew every night until Sunday, following a deadly night of unrest Tuesday.
“That curfew is to protect the public,” said Mayor John Antaramian during a news conference about the unrest, which has included two shooting deaths along with numerous arson fires and others being injured during demonstrations.
Sheriff David Beth said the curfew would extend to all areas east of I-94 in Kenosha County. That curfew will last until Sunday.
“It has been a difficult time in the City of Kenosha, a devastating time,” Antaramian added. “Violence in the community is not acceptable…it is up to us to make sure that does not continue.”
The mayor said the Governor has been supportive with assistance of the National Guard, while federal law enforcement assistance is already on scene. “The FBI is here. The ATF is here, and U.S. Marshals are here.”
The Mayor also added that the city will work on healing the racial divide that exists there.
“We are going to work together to resolve racial issues in our community.”
