Kenosha Police fired pepper spray at demonstrators Monday, as they demanded an arrest and prosecution of the officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back several times in Kenosha on Sunday.
Demonstrators’ anger rose after Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian talked to protesters, saying there would be a process of justice involving an investigation being led the by Wisconsin Department of Justice.
After protesters were not satisfied with his words, some of them chanted “Vote his (expletive) out!” as he left to re-enter his office and hold his news conference inside instead of at Civic Center Park.
Pushing and shoving ensued as a large crowd converged on the door of the building, which was eventually taken off its hinges. Police blocked the entryway to the building, and then fired pepper spray towards those near the door.
A couple of protesters threw items at police who were guarding the door after they shot the pepper spray.
There was no word on the extent of any injuries.
A curfew is set for 8 p.m. for all of Kenosha County.
