A 14-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man have died due to a drowning incident at McKinley Beach in Milwaukee Saturday, August 8, 2020.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office says they got word around 6:30 p.m. of two people who were in Lake Michigan and had failed to come out.
It was later determined they were 14-year-old boys who entered the water and one began the struggle. When the second teen tried to rescue the first, they both got caught in a current.
A 50-year-old man noticed the teens struggling and entered the water to help them. He was able to rescue one, but he was pulled underwater while trying to assist the second.
It was around 6:47 p.m. when deputies rescued the man, and he was taken to a hospital. However, he died from his injuries Sunday morning.
Around 7:07 p.m. deputies found the second teen. Milwaukee Fire Department responders attempted lifesaving measures on scene, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Milwaukee Police and the Coast Guard also assisted at the scene.
