In a unanimous vote Thursday night, the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission demoted Chief Alfonso Morales to the rank of captain, effective immediately.
Subsequently, the commission named Assistant Police Chief Michael Brunson to the role of acting chief.
The announcement was made after a closed session meeting to discuss the directives issued to Chief Morales by the FPC.
“A series of events and actions have occurred under the leadership of Alfonso Morales that are intolerable from any leader who holds a position of trust,” said Commissioner Raymond Robakowski. “His conduct is unbecoming, filled with ethical lapses and flawed decisions.”
“He has intentionally misled the public at numerous press conferences, YouTube videos and press releases in the past two weeks,” Robakowski added.
“There’s been a lot of chatter in the media and everywhere about us issuing directives to you, and except for maybe one of them, they were all things you said you would do in your first 100 days and beyond,” said Commissioner Ann Wilson. “You said you would do these things and I guess I’m kind of sort of disappointed that you didn’t because you had such a wonderful story.”
This is a developing story. Check back for details.
