Prosecutors have formally filed charges against the woman accused in the shooting death of a 2-year-old Tuesday, July 21 on Milwaukee’s northwest side.
Jasmine Daniels is charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Zymeiia Stevens.
Police say the girl was shot inside her home near 105th and Mill Road about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and died as she was being transported to the hospital.
According to a criminal complaint, Daniels–who is the mother of Stevens–initially told investigators her 3-year-old son had accidentally shot the girl while she was looking away.
Investigators say Daniels changed her story several times before admitting that she “accidentally did it.”
The criminal complaint says Daniels was playing with the gun when it went off and shot the toddler.
Daniels faces up to 60 years in prison.
