As sports leagues like the MLB and NBA gear up to resume play this month, longtime sports broadcaster Bob Costas is encouraging fans to enjoy the games again when they return.
“I would say if you’re just a spectator, you shouldn’t approach it with any sort of guilt,” Costas told WTMJ’s Scott Warras. “Even without fans in the stands, and even as odd as it would look with some players wearing masks…I’m going to enjoy that.”
With MLB’s Opening Day Friday, Costas thinks the shortened 60-game season will be remembered differently by fans.
“Will the champion be–on the terms of this season–a legitimate World Series champion, yeah,” Costas said. “But I don’t think anyone is going to view it the same.”
Costas touched on a number of topics ranging from the resumption of professional sports, to his friendship with Brewers broadcaster Bob Uecker and even the time he ate four bratwursts during a game at County Stadium.
“I’m kind of well-known,” he said of his eating ability. “There are lots of people who’ve said to me you could eat a linebacker under a table. If I didn’t have the metabolism of a hummingbird, I’d weigh about 290 and it would not be a pleasant sight.”
