Dale Bormann Jr., President of the Milwaukee Police Association, says he doesn’t understand why Chief Alfonso Morales’ job may be on the line.
“My members completely trust the chief, and that’s why we’re going to do everything possible to keep him around,” Bormann told WTMJ’s John Mercure.
“This chief supports our officers, and our officers support the chief. We need somebody like this to be the person who leads this department for the next four years.”
The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission is set to meet on Monday to consider “a resolution to vote and issue directives for Police Chief Alfonso Morale,” according to the meeting agenda.
Bormann thinks the meeting is a way for the FPC to exert more control over Chief Morales and his department.
“I think he is going to be held to a bunch of demands by the FPC chairperson, and if he doesn’t follow those demands, then I think that’s where they’re going to try to hang Chief Morales and get rid of him,” Bormann said.
Bormann says he’s gone as far as filing complaints against FPC Chairman Steven DeVougas.
“I don’t have any trust in the FPC at all. The chairman of the FPC has, in my eyes, violated several ethics complaints and we did file an ethics report with the city.”
Bormann thinks that in the end, Morales will remain as chief after Monday’s meeting.
“I would be lying to you if I told you I’m perfectly fine with it. I’m worried. I think there are a few people who are worried. I think my members are worried about whether or not they’re going to have this chief here or not. And that’s an issue.”
Monday’s meeting of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
