From driving scenic byways to gliding through town on a Segway, we have gathered a few ways to take an outdoor tour of a new city or revisit a family favorite this summer. We want to remind travelers to follow public health guidance this summer and take necessary precautions for safe and responsible recreation.
Great River Road
This National Scenic Byway runs parallel of the Mississippi River for 250 miles through 33 charming riverside communities. Almost two-thirds of the Great River Road runs through or along protected natural areas, offering plenty of scenic spots for hiking, biking, fishing, paddling, birdwatching and other outdoor recreation activities this summer! This unique, create-your-own-adventure type of trip is a great way to explore the West coast of Wisconsin at your own pace. As a heads up, there’s currently a closure for 6 miles from Genoa to Stoddard until November 2020. On the bright side, the detour will bring you through the charming community of Viroqua! Check out their historic downtown and make sure to grab a delicious meal at the incredible Driftless Café.
Segway Tours
Segway tours are a unique way to experience an area’s scenery with some unforgettable, two-wheeled family fun. Check out Glide N.E.W. for Segway tours around Northeastern Wisconsin through communities in the Fox Cities and Green Bay. They offer a variety of Door County tours for riders to take in some of the area’s beautiful scenery and picturesque views. Guests can ‘glide’ through gorgeous Door County destinations like Peninsula State Park, Baileys Harbor Wilderness, Egg Harbor, and Washington Island.
Public Art Tour
Public art projects bring creativity and vibrancy to communities across the state.
Milwaukee Downtown has a new site mapping all the public art and murals in the city – check out the interactive map here. The Stevens Point Sculpture Park is truly one of Wisconsin’s hidden gems. Visitors can stroll the winding trails of the 20-acre park to discover over 30 pieces of artwork from local, regional, and national artists. Make sure to snap a picture at the iconic giant Sand County Bench! The park is also connected to the 27-mile Green Circle Trail, which loops the Stevens Point area through forests, parks and wetlands
We love helping listeners dream up their next Wisconsin trip, but please call ahead to businesses check if their hours or offerings have changed, book your reservations and set up tours, and learn what necessary health precautions are in place.
