Morale is on the decline among police officers in Wisconsin, according to former Waukesha County Sheriff Daniel Trawicki.
In an interview with WTMJ’s John Mercure, Trawicki focused on officers in Madison, who he says were told to stand down while protests turned violent late last month.
“Their morale is so low, and I see that across the country and across our great state right now,” Trawicki said.
“The police officers are looking at getting out.”
He says the officers he speaks with are “frustrated with the lack of support,” but despite that frustration, law enforcement officers are still showing up to do their jobs.
He cited the example of Milwaukee police allowing protesters to paint “Defund the Police” on Water Street.
“It’s their job and it was our job to protect those people,” Trawicki said.
“Even though in that case, they’re basically destroying some property or using graffiti on a public road and disrupting traffic. But they’re peacefully protesting and it’s our job to protect them.”
