The head of the Democratic National Committee says the party isn’t backing away from its commitment to hold their nominating convention in Milwaukee this August.
“I’m confident we will be there,” said DNC Chair Tom Perez. “We will follow the science, and we will not abandon Milwaukee, unlike this president as to North Carolina.”
Republicans are poised to move their convention from Charlotte after clashing with local leaders over pandemic safeguards.
Perez declined to comment on how many people he expects to be in Milwaukee for the convention.
“As soon as we know exactly how many folks will be there, we will let you know,” he said. “I chose Milwaukee, and it was my decision, because I believe that Wisconsin is a great place to highlight our values.”
Perez claims it will be a historic nomination, which he says will feature the first female vice president.
The idea has the support of Wisconsin Congresswoman Gwen Moore.
“I think that having an African-American woman be nominated for vice president would be excellent, as long as it’s not me,” she joked.
The convention comes to Milwaukee Aug. 17-20.
