The Milwaukee County Transit System says that for the next four nights, all buses will end service at 10 p.m.
The move comes in response to late night protests sparked by the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers on Memorial Day. Drivers have had difficulty operating safely in the midst of the demonstrations, according to an MCTS statement.
“We understand that the suspension of service will be an inconvenience to riders who use the bus to get to and from work in the late-night hours,” said MCTS Managing Director Dan Boehm in the statement.
“But we had to make this difficult decision in order to help ensure the safety of our employees, passengers and those that are protesting to make their voices heard.”
Service will return each following morning at normal scheduled times.
