A reconstruction project begins Monday, May 4, 2020 on a stretch of North 60th Street in Milwaukee.
The city’s Department of Public Works says the focus will be between Capitol Drive and Hampton Avenue. Parts of the project include replacing the current pavement with new concrete, updating street lights, traffic signals, storm sewer inlets and laterals, and replacing the bridge deck over Lincoln Creek.
When completed, the road will have two lanes of traffic, one bike lane and one lane for parking in each direction.
The project is being split up into two phases. Work will first start on the west side of the street, then the east side. Access to side streets on the side that work is being done on will be restricted, as well as on street parking.
Sidewalk access will be maintained, but some short-term disruptions can occur as parts of the sidewalks are removed and rebuilt.
People who use MCTS’ Blue Line or Route 76 service will also need to adjust their pickup and drop off points, as well as plan for possible delays.
Construction is scheduled to be completed by October, but landscape and electrical work won’t be finished until 2021.
