The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office has its first two positive cases of COVID-19.
One of them is a deputy sheriff assigned to the Vel R. Phillips Youth and Family Justice Center. She was sent home on April 1 after experiencing symptoms of the virus, and later tested positive.
The other person is a stores clerk assigned to the Property Room at the Milwaukee County Jail. They were sent home on March 26 due to an elevated temperature, and later tested positive for the virus.
Both employees did not have any regular contact with the general public.
“We continue to see the spread of COVID-19 throughout our community and now into the workplace,” says Sheriff Earnell Lucas. “We will continue to take every precaution to ensure the safety of the members of the Sheriff’s Office, the people entrusted to our care and the community we serve.”
The Sheriff’s Office is following the City of Milwaukee Health Department’s guidelines to conduct internal contact tracing to determine whether either member had close contact with other employees.
