More road construction projects are scheduled to begin this week in southeast Wisconsin.
One will be the resurfacing of Highway 45 between Highway 50 in Kenosha County northward to Highway 11 in Racine County.
Crews will also be working on replacing multiple culverts.
Drivers should expect detours whenever workers are on site. Temporary signs will be in place at the intersection of Highways 45 and 50.
The project should be completed by late summer. More details can be found here: Highway 45 Kenosha resurfacing project.
The other project will be a safety improvement project on a portion of West Fond du Lac Avenue in Milwaukee. It will take place between North 36th and North 38th streets, next to Milwaukee Police District 7 Headquarters and Sherman Phoenix.
The city’s Department of Public Works says the project is focused on improving overall vehicle and walking traffic. It consists of changing intersections and turn lanes by adding curb extensions, pedestrian refuge islands and new marked crosswalks.
The project will be split into two major stages.
Stage 1:
Construction will take place on the north side of Fond du Lac Avenue. One northbound lane and two southbound lanes will be maintained. The intersections of 36th and 37th Streets will be constructed one-half at a time to maintain through traffic.
Stage 2:
Construction will take place on the south side of Fond du Lac Avenue. One lane of southbound traffic will be maintained and two northbound lanes will be open. 36th, 37th and 38th Streets will be closed to through traffic on the south side of Fond du Lac Avenue.
There will also be parking and walking restrictions, and the bus stop at 38th for the Blueline may be discontinued temporarily.
Completion is set for late June.
