Appleton Police is encouraging people to “Go Pink for Zyana” in memory of a three-year-old child who was killed last month.
Police say Zyana Corbin’s family will bury her and hold a memorial service Tuesday after the girl’s stabbing death on February 26, and the department is asking for people to wear pink Tuesday in her memory.
Police say their department building will be lit up in pink for numerous evenings, while Houdini Plaza and the Fox Cities Exposition Center will also have pink lighting.
Part of the family’s obituary was shared by Appleton Police.
“Zyana was a loving, sweet and genuinely happy child that enjoyed being around her family. Our child enjoyed watching Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, reading and dancing. Zyana had dreams of becoming a ballerina and Doctor. She loved to help her mom cook and playing at the playground with other kids, making them happy.
Zyana loved to wear colors when she got dressed for her day, but her favorite color to wear was pink. She was always concerned about her family and wanted to brighten up their day.”
A statement from police gave this sharing of emotion and understanding:
There are wicked things that occur in this world that none of us can understand, but when they happen we need to come together to support each other and those who are hurting. Our thoughts and prayers are first and foremost with her family, but they are also with the others who are struggling with this tragedy including her neighbors and friends, our first responders and hospital staff, and our community members who may have also suffered the loss of a child.
It is a helpless feeling when we see people suffering and we feel like there is nothing we can do. But, there is a powerful healing that happens when strangers take time to let someone who is hurting know that they care about them and are supporting them.
