The Senate taking action Thursday in passing a roughly $8 billion emergency funding bill to fight the coronavirus.
The package was passed through the House of Representatives earlier this week and now awaits the President’s signature. The White House says President Trump is likely to sign the bill today.
The legislation provides more than $2 billion to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for prevention, preparedness and response efforts. More than $3 billion will go to a public health emergency fund to research and develop a vaccine and testing for the virus. The bill also allocates more than $300 million to help subsidize a vaccine whenever one is created and made public.
Individual states will benefit from the spending bill, as well. The State of Wisconsin is set to receive $10 million to help combat the virus which has been spreading across the globe for several weeks.
The Wisconsin Department of Health says 39 people have been tested for Coronavirus, with only one test coming back positive. That patient has since been treated for the virus and released from care.
