The City of Waukesha closed numerous roads in the downtown area Wednesday morning after what was described as a “major gas leak.”
It reportedly happened at about 8 a.m. Wednesday near the corner of East Main Street and Barstow Street.

The Journal Sentinel described it as having “a sound like a steady geyser shooting into the air.” City officials told the newspaper it was assuming the accident was caused by construction, but it did not have initial confirmation.
The city had to close off numerous roads in the downtown area.
The Waukesha Freeman said it was contained at about 10:30 a.m.
