It is estimated that there are more than 20 million people living in modern slavery all over the world, according to the website DoSomething.org.
Human trafficking is a $150 billion a year industry.
There’s a new army of American workers that are fighting to put a stop to trafficking around the country; truckers.
“They see it a lot more than the average citizen does,” said Kylla Lanier, deputy director at Truckers Against Trafficking, an organization aimed at utilizing transportation employees in the fight against human trafficking.
“They’re on the roads, they’re out there, and traffickers are exploiting the areas where truck drivers go to exploit their victims.”
So far the organization has identified 1,230 victims across the country.
Lanier joined WTMJ’s John Mercure on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News Tuesday. Listen to their conversation above.
