MILWAUKEE- The Milwaukee Police Department and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office say they’re doing their due diligence when it comes to combating a supposedly fake social media profile purporting to be a member of law enforcement.
The profile was created on Facebook under the user name Larry Maxwell and was found to have posted several sexist and racist comments on the social media site.
Milwaukee Police, in conjunction with the Sheriff’s Office released a statement Thursday saying neither organization had anybody on their payroll named Larry Maxwell.
The Milwaukee Police Department does have a policy that prohibits members from posting “obscene or sexually explicit language, images, acts and statements that ridicule, malign, disparage, or otherwise express bias against any race, any religion, or any protected class of individuals.” An officer found to run afoul of that policy could be reprimanded or fired.
Former MPD officer Erik Andrede was fired in 2018 after posting memes on Facebook following the arrest of Bucks player Sterling Brown.
