Travelers heading through Mitchell International Airport will get a fresh taste of local Milwaukee flavor.
The Summerfest Marketplace becomes the festival’s first merchandise store outside of the grounds at Henry Maier Festival Park, and becomes the largest retail space at the airport.
“When we talked about this two-and-a-half years ago, we focused on the location,” Summerfest CEO Don Smiley told WTMJ. “We really didn’t want to be on a concourse. We wanted to be in the terminal at the corner of main and main, and that’s exactly where we ended up.”
The shop features unique merchandise from more than 30 other local vendors.
“One of our objectives here is to showcase Milwaukee here at the airport,” said Mitchell Airport Director Brian Dranzik. “Our hometown travelers that can take pride in the things Milwaukee has to offer, but also travelers that are coming from other locations, to get a little bit more familiar with things Milwaukee has to offer. What better way to do that with Summerfest here at the main focal point of everything going on at the terminal.”
