Today marks one year since Jayme Closs escaped from the home of her
kidnapper Jake Patterson.
She had been missing since October 15 and held in captivity for 88 days.
“It’s probably a moment I will never forget in my life,” Barron County
Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald tells WTMJ.
Family members say Closs is doing well, living with her aunt and uncle.
“She’s got a smile on her face. She’s just being a kid. And that’s all we
want, and I know that’s all everybody wants,” adds Fitzgerald.
One year later, Fitzgerald adds there is a new normal in Barron County.
“Neighbors helping neighbors. Neighbors watching out for neighbors. We’ve
grown and gotten a lot stronger.”
