Original Story:
A pursuit of a vehicle on Milwaukee’s north side leads to an officer-involved shooting that injured one suspect Sunday evening.
Chief Alfonso Morales says officers from District 7 tried to stop a vehicle for reckless driving near 47th and Hampton just after 8 p.m.
The vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old Milwaukee man, led police on a pursuit around the block before it crashed into a light pole in the same area where it began fleeing.
“The suspect exited the vehicle and immediately fired shots at officers,“ says Morales. “Three officers fired back, striking the suspect. He is currently at a local hospital being treated, and is listed in serious or grave condition.“
No officers were injured during the incident. Morales says they have nine, five and four years of experience with the department.
“All three will be placed on administrative leave or administrative duty as per our protocol for incidents such as these,“ say Morales.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is investigating the shooting, with Wauwatosa Police taking the lead.
More information is expected to be released on Monday. A community briefing is also expected in several months, as per department policy.
