Two recent traffic stops in southeast Wisconsin have led to the arrests of three people for drug possession.
The first took place on Highway 45 at Western Avenue in Washington County October 6, 2019 around 5 p.m. The sheriff’s office says the vehicle was stopped after its plates returned a warrant for its owner.
When stopped, deputies found the two people inside, 35-year-old Travis Cochenet of Kewaskum and 35-year-old Melissa Carlson of Lomira, had active warrants. The two were arrested and a search of the vehicle was conducted. With assistance from K9 Officer Ryker, a scale with a white powder on it was found around the front passenger door.
The search also found a bag, filled with children’s toys, clothes, and snacks, also had a purse inside that contained razor blades, Fentanyl residue and other paraphernalia. Another container with a white powder residue was located inside a children’s toy purse.
Both suspects were taken to the Washington County Jail. After a strip search, correctional staff noticed Carlson was walking in a suspicious manner. They conducted a body scan on her, which revealed she had a piece of Fentanyl and an earring inside her.
Drug charges are pending, while child protective services have been contacted to assist any children impacted by the arrests.
The second incident took place on I-94 in Racine County October 18, 2019 just after 8 a.m. The sheriff’s office says a deputy assigned for traffic enforcement stopped a vehicle for following another vehicle too close.
During the stop K9 Officer Friday alerted others about the presence of narcotics within the vehicle. A search found 144.1 grams of THC butter separated into multiple packages, along with 14 THC vape cartridges.
The 19-year-old Watertown man was arrested for possessing THC with intent to deliver and bail jumping. He was taken to the Racine County Jail with bail set at $13,500.
A passenger inside the vehicle was issued a citation for an ordinance violation.
