Bernie Brewer could be joining the Mascot Hall of Fame next year, but needs some help to get there.
Bernie is one of 17 mascots being considered for induction next June. Reasons for his consideration include his unique home run celebration and making dozens of community appearances throughout the year.
Part of the process to select the hall’s 2020 class starts with narrowing down the list to 10. An online vote is underway to help with this through October 12. A link to the vote can be found here.
The 10 who make the final ballot will be part of another online vote that will run from October 20 through October 26. Those who get 65-percent of all eligible votes, based on a combination of online votes, the membership of the Mascot Hall of Fame and the hall’s Executive Committee, will be selected for induction. That announcement will be made in December.
The Mascot Hall of Fame began in 2005 by David Raymond, the original Phillie Phanatic. 21 mascots have been inducted since, including Bucky Badger in 2006.
Originally started as an online-only hall, a physical Mascot Hall of Fame opened in April 2019 in Whiting, Indiana.
