When disaster strikes, volunteers with the Salvation Army are hoping to step up and to give back.
On Thursday, volunteers underwent a 4-hour course in order to be deployed to disasters like recent Wisconsin flooding, tornadoes, or even events regionally.
“It’s important for us that our volunteers understand how the Salvation Army operates,” said Salvation Army Pastor Alexis Twito, who is the Milwaukee Chaplaincy Coordinator. “This introduction course gives everybody a crash course in how we do what we do.”
Volunteers say they’re more than willing to give back after getting a hand themselves.
“The Salvation Army has helped me when I was down and out,” said volunteer Mary Fullilove. “I’ll never be able to repay them, for one thing, but to give back is just an honor.”
