Milwaukee Police Chief Alfonso Morales will find out at the end of the week whether he’ll be keeping his job, a job he says he wants to keep at a time which he believes is critical for continuity with the Democratic National Convention coming next year.
“There has been a conversation between the Mayor and I. I’d like to stay,” said Chief Morales at WTMJ 2020 Monday.

“The Mayor says ‘Am I interested in staying?’ Ultimately, it’s the Fire and Police Commission’s decision and we’ll see what they decide to do. They will be making something public.”
Morales said that he expects the Fire and Police Commission to make notice of the process to happen later this week.
The Chief said one major reason to keep continuity has to do with arguably the biggest event in the history of Milwaukee, the Democratic National Convention to be held here in 2020.

“There is a ton of detail that goes into planning the DNC security, the public safety. There is a ton of networking that has to go on.,,on top of that, every month that goes on, there is a different part of training, things that need to be accomplished,” said Morales.
“You don’t plan a month in advance. To change the leadership, how are you going to bring that leader into the DNC process?”
