A Racine woman is rescued from Lake Michigan after becoming too exhausted to swim back to shore Wednesday evening.
The Racine County Sheriff’s office says they received the 911 call at 5:22 p.m., saying the woman was possibly 200 feet off the shore of North Beach.
It was their water patrol that found the 22-year-old treading water about 400 feet from the shore in 12 feet of water. The woman told deputies “I can’t swim, I can’t feel my arms or legs.” They helped the woman into their boat before she drowned, adding she was “completely exhausted”.
The woman was taken to shore and transported to Ascension All Saints Hospital for an evaluation. No information was given on her condition.
The department is investigating why the woman was in the water. Assisting them in their rescue included Racine Police, Racine Fire/Rescue, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
