The officer involved in a fatal shooting of a suspect June 15 is being identified as Eric Giese, a 12-year veteran of the Village of Mount Pleasant Police Department.
In a release from the Department of Justice, Sgt. Giese has been a sergeant for a year and a half.
Investigators say he was trying to stop a suspect, 18-year-old Tyrese West, who was riding a bicycle around 1:35 a.m.
Police say Sgt. Giese pursued on foot when he noticed West was armed with a gun and was not obeying commands. That led Sgt. Giese to fire his weapon.

Sgt. Giese is currently on administrative leave as the investigation continues.
