Milwaukee’s Department of Public Works will be conducting a new paving project on a major city roadway, while another project currently underway will enter its next stage.
The high impact paving project will be on a stretch of West Wisconsin Avenue starting Monday, June 10, 2019. The schedule is set for two days, with hopes to have the work done by the afternoon commute. All this is weather permitting.
Starting at 6 a.m. Monday, work will begin at North Water Street and will progress west to North 5th Street. Working one block at a time, crews will be milling the existing pavement and resurfacing the road immediately afterwards. Similar work will be taking place on Tuesday, starting at 6 a.m., and will work its way from 5th Street to North 10th Street.
The traffic impact will be one to two blocks at a time around the work area. Traffic will remain open on north and southbound intersections.
The other project of note will be the current work on the South 35th Street Bridge over the Kinnickinnic River. Starting at 9 a.m. on June 10, 2019 traffic on the entire bridge will be blocked as crews will be pouring the concrete deck and give it the time to cure. They will also be finishing utility work and rebuilding the sidewalk on the bridge’s east side.
This work is expected to be completed by June 24, but could be done earlier than that. Once it reopens, motorists will be driving on the new section of the bridge while work continues on the west side of the bridge.
