An inconsistent spring has area lakes quieter than normal this time of year.
That’s worrisome for businesses that rely on lake activity in the summer.
“Cooler temperatures and the last couple weeks it’s been raining throughout the whole entire week and that’s pushed back the time it’s supposed to be nice compared to last year,” said Ryan, a worker at Beachside Boat and Bait on Pewaukee Lake, which rents out boats and kayaks.
Workers say business this year has lagged about three times behind that of the year prior, but that doesn’t mean hope is lost for the summer.
“All the schools around here are ending, so that will drive a lot of business at least to the beach,” Ryan said. “There are a lot that fish, so that’ll drive business up and paddle boats and kayaks will bring a good portion of business back.”
