Wisconsin Bike Week 2019 began the weekend of June 1-2, but the City of Milwaukee will have one of its biggest events coming up the morning of June 3.
Mayor Tom Barrett, Common Council President Ashanti Hamilton, Alderman Nik Kovac, and Alderman Tony Zielinski will each be leading bike rides in different parts of the city starting at 7:30 a.m. They will be joined by members of the Wisconsin Bike Federation, Bublr Bikes, and Milwaukee Department of Public Works staff. Riders who do not make it to the starting points can join the ride in progress along their routes. All routes will end at Red Arrow Park.
Routes include:
Mayor Barrett’s ride will meet at Washington Boulevard and 51st Street. They will travel east on Washington through Washington Park, then travel on Highland Boulevard to 26th Street, head south on 26th to State Street, then east on State to 6th Street, north on 6th to Juneau Avenue, east on Juneau to Water Street, then south on Water until Red Arrow Park.
Hamilton’s ride will meet at 10th Street and Capitol Drive. They will travel south on 10th to Nash Street, east on Nash to 9th Street, south on 9th to Burleigh Street, east on Burleigh to 5th Street, south on 5th to Meinecke Avenue, east on Meinecke to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, south of MLK to North Avenue, west on North to 4th Street, south on 4th to Cherry Street, east on Cherry to Water Street, then south on Water to Red Arrow Park.
Kovac’s ride will meet at Gordon Park. They will travel south on the Beerline Trail to Commerce Street, then cross the Marsupial Bridge to reach Water Street, then take Water south to Red Arrow Park.
Zielinski’s ride will meet at Zillman Park. They will travel north on Kinnickinnic Avenue to Maple Street, west on Maple to 2nd Street, north on 2nd as it becomes Plankinton Avenue until Kilbourn Avenue, then east on Kilbourn until Red Arrow Park.
