The Racine County Sheriff’s Office says two accidents within 75 minutes of each other on May 26, 2019 resulted in two arrests of people with multiple OWIs.
The first took place just after 5:30 p.m. after a motorcycle wiped out on McHenry Street and Burlington Bypass State Highway 36 in the Town of Burlington. The operator was bleeding from his face.
When deputies arrived, the 40-year-old male operator from Wind Lake ran from the scene. Deputies were able to catch up and take him into custody.
He was found to have a blood-alcohol level of over .24, well about the .02 restriction he had to follow due to a past conviction. He was arrested for his 5th OWI, an obstruction misdemeanor, and cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
Just over an hour later at 6:45 p.m. deputies responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and County Road D in the Village of Rochester. The two drivers involved suffered injuries, but nothing considered life threatening.
The driver who caused the accident, a 57-year-old man from Rochester, had a blood-alcohol level over .22. He was arrested for his fourth OWI offense and cited for failure to yield the right of way.
