The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works is hosting its 8th annual backyard compost bin and rain barrel sale.
The sale is currently underway for people to order bins, barrels, organic compost, and accessories. Anyone, regardless of if they live within the city limits or not, can place an order by going online to the Milwaukee Composter Sale website. The order must be in place by May 24th.
Items that will be sold include Earth Machine compost bins for $50, SYSTERN rain barrels for $69, and 25-pound bags of organic compost for $10. Prices do not include tax.
Pickup for the items will be on June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Estabrook Park parking lot. There will be no day-of sales for items.
The hope of the sale is to help reduce the amount of rainwater that would need to be treated by storm water sewer systems. A properly placed rain barrel could collect 600 gallons of water for an inch of rainfall on a 1,000-square-foot roof.
People can visit the Milwaukee Recycles website for more information or call 414-286-2489.
