A new company spawned from longtime Milwaukee-area corporate stalwart Johnson Controls will be taking over their longtime headquarters in Glendale.
Clarios began operations Wednesday after Johnson Controls sold its Power Solutions division to Brookfield Business Partners for $13.2 billion, according to the Journal Sentinel. The publication also says that investors “including Caisse de depôt et placement du Quebec” have additionally bought in.
The new company will take over the longtime Johnson Controls building in Glendale. It will employ 16,000 people in 56 worldwide locations, including 500 in Milwaukee according to the Journal Sentinel.
Clarios says it makes one-third of all automotive batteries.
“At Clarios our vision is to power progress by creating the world’s smartest energy storage solutions that benefit people, business, and the planet,” said Joe Walicki, president of Clarios, in a statement.
“As a global leader with a product used in virtually every vehicle from conventional to fully electric, we are well positioned to capitalize on market trends, including a move toward more electrified and autonomous vehicles which are elevating the critical role of the battery and accelerating the need for more advanced batteries. Under Brookfield’s ownership, we can better capitalize on these growing trends and operate with more focus and efficiency.”
