A man from Beaver Dam has been charged with first degree intentional homicide after the shooting death of his ex-wife.
A criminal complaint says that Ulisses Espinosa faces life in prison if he is convicted for the deadly shooting of a woman from Illinois. it happened on Saturday at a home on East Third Street in Beaver Dam.
After the initial call about the shooting at about 2:40 p.m., police entered a home and spoke to someone who said she is Ulisses ‘ mother. The criminal complaint says she told police ” He killed her! ” repeatedly as their conversation started. She later told investigators that the victim, a state’s attorney who is 30 years old, had filed a restraining order against him.
Ulisses was inside the home next to his young daughter when police arrested him. He did not comment to officers during the arrest.
The complaint states that Ulisses ‘ mother later told investigators he came to his parents’ home unannounced when the victim was home. According to his mother, Ulisses then gave his young daughter toys to play with, then went into the kitchen where the victim was located.
His mother then said, according to the complaint, she heard numerous gunshots before seeing the victim ” laying on her stomach with blood all over her back. ”
When his mother confronted him, screaming ” What are you doing? ” , the complaint says he did not respond, but walked over to his daughter.
According to investigators, Ulisses ‘ mother said that he ” has never been violent in his life. She said that this is completely out of character. She kept telling me, ‘ This is not my son. This is not my son. ‘ ”
As another investigator described in the complaint, the victim’s boyfriend said since she and Ulisses divorced in 2016, ” he has been stalking her ” and that ” Ulisses was becoming more upset and ‘erratic.’ ”
The young child also testified to police. According to her words in the complaint:
” Mom said we were going to see Grandma Maria and it surprised me that daddy was coming. He started shooting my mommy with a gun. ”
