Nearly one year after it took place, a suspect in Ohio has been charged for a Dodge County swatting incident.
Sheriff Dale Schmidt says Detective Andrew Rolfs, with assistance from other law enforcement agencies from across the country, determined a 17-year-old male from Youngstown, Ohio is the person responsible for the March 22, 2018 incident.
That incident resulted in a SWAT team being called to a home on Highway 151 between Beaver Dam and Columbus after the caller claimed to have shot someone and had taken another person hostage. An investigation at the scene found no such incident taking place, resulting in a waste of time and resources for law enforcement.
The investigation by law enforcement agencies nationwide also determining the teenager is responsible for other similar incidents across the country. Mahoning County, Ohio prosecutors have charged him with 40 felonies and 33 misdemeanors in connection to all cases.
Sheriff Schmidt says the swatting incident would be taken serious. While it took months to resolve, he is glad the perpetrator will be held accountable and hopes his arrest will deter others from doing such acts in the future.
