MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A Waunakee man who shot his neighbor to death in her home last summer was ordered committed to a state mental hospital for life.
The State Journal reports that 75-year-old Ronald Jenne pleaded no contest Friday to the killing and was subsequently found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
Lawyers on both sides agreed with the findings of doctors that Jenne lacked the capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions or obey the law when he shot 54-year-old Julie Anderson at the Waunakee condominium building where they lived.
Jenne pleaded no contest to first-degree intentional homicide for shooting Anderson and first-degree reckless endangerment for pointing his gun at Anderson’s 15-year-old son.
The complaint gives no clear indication of why Jenne shot Anderson.
