Washington County had its first traffic death of 2019 Friday night when a wrong way driver caused a head-on collision on Highway 33 Friday evening.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says they got word of the accident just before 8:30 p.m. on the highway near Riesch Road.
A preliminary investigation found a vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old Jackson man, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of traffic. This caused it to strike a vehicle traveling westbound. Weather and road conditions are not considered factors in the accident.
The Jackson man died at the scene. A passenger in the second vehicle, a 31-year-old Eden woman, was transported to Froedtert Hospital with leg and back injuries. The 38-year-old Eden man driving the second vehicle was not injured.
Traffic was blocked on the westbound lanes of the highway for around three hours as the accident scene was investigated and cleaned up. An investigation continue.
