2018 was a tragic year for the Milwaukee Police Department with losing Officer Charles Irvine, Jr. and Officer Michael Michalski in the line of duty.
The Milwaukee Police Association Fallen Heroes is now partnering with MPD to help raise funds to help pay for traveling expenses for family members of fallen officers to attend National Police Week this spring.
Milwaukee Police Detective Erik Gulbrandson tells WTMJ that the names of Irvine and Michalski will be honored the week of May 12-17 in Washington, D.C.
“Their names will be placed on the National Police Wall. So, it puts more closure to the family and allows their names to forever be recognized,” say Gulbrandson. “To be there as their names are noted and recognized on the wall, is an experience we can’t put words to.”
This trip is important in the healing process for family members and close friends of the fallen heroes.
The organization is hoping to raise $100,000 to take 160 people on this memorable trip.
Donations can be sent to MPA Fallen Heroes Fund Inc. to 6310 W. Bluemound Rd. Milwaukee, WI 53213.
All donations goes to travel expenses and lodging during National Police Week.
There will also be a fundraiser on February 23rd at Doc’s Smokehouse at 754 Vel R. Phillips Ave. in Milwaukee from 11am-11pm. All proceeds ordered from a special menu will go towards funding the trip.
