Saturday kicks off the start of the gun deer hunt season in Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin DNR warning of Chronic Wasting Disease which is prevalent in 55 counties statewide. Wildlife regulations and Policy Specialist Scott Karel always recommends getting any deer acquired tested for the disease.
The state DNR asking for hunters help in getting their own deer tested.
Some rules to keep in mind for first time hunters. All harvested deer must be registered by 5:00 p.m. the day after recovery in the Deer Management Unit (DMU) of harvest or an adjoining DMU. Deer may be registered online through Game Reg, by phone at 1-844-GAME-REG (1-844-426-3734), or at a participating in-person registration station. Before you register, have the unique deer harvest authorization number ready.
Gun season concludes on November 25 th.
