A report says the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra has chosen a new music director.
Ken-David Masur will take the role from Edo de Waart.
He will plan the upcoming season with MSO Vice President of Artistic Planning and Operations Bret Dorhout, then will take over full time in 2019-20 according to the Journal Sentinel.
The next year, the MSO will move to the Warner Grand Theater on Wisconsin Avenue. Masur is under contract until 2023.
“I’m overwhelmed with both excitement and gratitude for the time I’ve already been able to have with the orchestra, and for the extreme warmth that I’ve felt every time that I’ve visited,” Masur told the Journal Sentinel.
Masur, born in Leipzig, Germany, works with the Boston Symphony and Munich Symphony orchestras.
