In his 99 years, evangelist Billy Graham reportedly spoke in person to more than 210 million people, proclaiming his protestant Christian beliefs. Graham passed away Wednesday morning.
Among his travels, he came to Wisconsin 22 times, and twice to Milwaukee in the 1970’s, according to the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College.
He spoke at what was called the “Milwaukee Reachout” at the Milwaukee Arena (now called the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena) which, according to Wheaton, drew more than 60,000 people over 10 days.
Above and below, you can see video of his August 11, 1979 crusade in Milwaukee. He spoke about “the pursuit of happiness” and how in his view, the goal of life is not to attain happiness, but obey God.
Wheaton says that 151,500 people attended the crusade which happened over five days at County Stadium.
