Pat Connaughton misses his teammates.
“Just the camaraderie, being around the guys, being able to compete together, sharing the things we do together,” he says.
The Bucks guard has not been able to engage in the relationships that mean so much to him, and this time on the calendar was expected to bring his team making a push to win the franchise’s first NBA championship since 1971.
Instead, some people are dying from coronavirus, and the steps taken to protect people from COVID-19 have left some people without jobs. So Connaughton is doing something about it through the Athletes Doing Good Radiothon on 94.5 ESPN Thursday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.
“There’s a lot bigger, graver needs for a lot of other people,” Connaughton told WTMJ’s Wisconsin’s Afternoon News on Wednesday.
“There’s got to be a way to do it from a greater spectrum, for the City of Milwaukee and the State of Wisconsin.”
Guest lists, as of Wednesday, are set to include NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, Coach Mike Budenholzer and other teammates like All-Star Khris Middleton, Brewers star Christian Yelich, manager Craig Counsell and so many more from across the Wisconsin sports scene as well Trey Wingo, Mike Golic and Mike Golic, Jr. from ESPN.

Capture Sports Marketing’s Athletes Doing Good Radiothon will air on Thursday, May 21, with partner ESPN Wisconsin and one-day only host Milwaukee Bucks player Pat Connaughton.
To help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, funds raised during the event will go toward relief efforts led by Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin, Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and the With Us Foundation.
The radiothon will air on 94.5 ESPN Milwaukee and 100.5 ESPN Madison from 7 A.M. to 6 P.M. Thursday, May 21, and feature interviews with Connaughton and other Wisconsin athletes and celebrities.
“By playing for the Milwaukee Bucks, I’ve come to appreciate the support the city of Milwaukee and state of Wisconsin give to our team and communities,” said Connaughton. “I knew that by playing a lead role in helping make this radiothon successful, I could not only help give back to the community, but share behind-the-scenes sports stories with fans who miss watching their favorite teams.”
Listeners will hear personal stories from some of their favorite athletes, have the opportunity to donate online to help people in their communities impacted by COVID-19 and bid on silent auction items.
“Our Athletes Doing Good initiative is a long-term effort to inspire others to do good by featuring stories of professional athletes and others in the sports industry who are making a difference,” said Chellee Siewert, president, Capture Sports Marketing.
“The radiothon in partnership with ESPN Wisconsin and Good Karma Brands is an avenue for athletes to help raise funds and awareness for some of the organizations that are supporting those who need it the most during this pandemic.”
