It’s one thing to hit a cycle. But another thing to do it twice in a year.
Yet another to do it twice in less than a month, against the same team.
Only Milwaukee Brewers outfielder and 2018 National League MVP Christian Yelich has ever done that. He did it to the Cincinnati Reds, once on August 29, 2018 and again on September 17 that year at Miller Park in an 8-0 win.
The cycle started with a single to center field in the first inning. Two innings later, Yelich doubled to right field in an inning where the Brewers added their first run of the game.
In the fifth inning, Yelich delivered a bomb down the right field line that landed in the seats and gave Milwaukee a 4-0 lead.
The triple is always the hardest hit to get in the chase for a cycle. But in a year where everything seemed easy for the MVP, it seemed inevitable he would snag a three-bagger.
He did it in the 6th inning, driving the final runs home in the Brewers’ triumph.
Bob Uecker said it perfectly on WTMJ: “Wow! They’re on their feet here. So are we! Wow!”
