There will be baseball at Miller Park this season, but there won’t be any in Appleton at the Milwaukee Brewers’ Class A affiliate.
There will be no minor league season, Major League Baseball announced Tuesday.
“We knew this was coming, probably for the last two or so months,” said Rob Zerjav, president of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. “It’s a sad day, but at the same time, it’s just not going to be possible for this year. It’s nice to have that message out there so we can move forward, and fans can understand where we’re at>”
The Timber Rattlers’ field will be used as an alternate training site for the Brewers as they play through their 60-game COVID-shortened season.
Fans may be able to attend workouts for the players who will be working out in Appleton in case the Brewers need them during the season.
“So far, the Brewers are very supportive of us having fans come in to watch practice and intersquad games,” Zerjav explained.
“We’ll start to put a plan together for what those intrasquad games will look like, when are they happening…a great benefit, something kind of neat and different, hopefully a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing.”
