It was a dunk that set NBA All-Star Weekend on fire.
Bucks guard Pat Connaughton got some MVP help during the Slam Dunk competition in February 2020, choosing to wear the outfit from Woody Harrelson’s character in “White Men Can’t Jump” and leaping over 2018 MLB MVP Christian Yelich.
“I had faith in you the whole time. When we were standing…you’re a little bit taller than I am…you did it perfectly in practice. It was completely fine,” said Yelich during Capture Sports Marketing’s Athletes Doing Good Radiothon with Pat Connaughton Thursday.
“When we were doing the event…you were like, ‘Are you ready?’ I’m like, ‘Dude, are you ready? That’s the question!’ “
He was ready, easily skying over Yelich for one of the most spectacular dunks of the contest.
“It all happened so fast,” Yelich added.
“I looked back at you after the dunk…and said ‘Hey, did we make it?’ And you looked all hyped, like you made it.’ “
Yelich shared what would have come next in the competition, had Connaughton made the finals.
“I was supposed to flip Pat a baseball while he was doing a 360 and he was supposed to catch it and dunk a baseball at the same time,” he said.
“This one, I had the potential to blow it.”
