Milwaukee Brewers General Manager David Stearns attends most, if not all, games at Miller Park and numerous road games.
When his wife is at these games, he always has the same concern so many fans now have after witnessing a young girl accidentally get injured by the foul ball smashed by the Chicago Cubs’ Albert Almora in Houston Wednesday night.
“I know when my family, when my wife is at a game and sitting at a non-netted section, I’m constantly reminding her when opposite-handed batters are up to be aware of foul balls. I think that’s probably generally good practice with most fans,” said Stearns on WTMJ’s “Wisconsin’s Morning News” Thursday.
“These balls that are coming into these stands are coming really, really hard. It’s incumbent upon all of us to pay attention when we’re at a baseball game.”
Stearns believes, however, that MLB has a responsibility as well to protect the fans from such risk.
“It’s something that we’re continuing to look at. I was a big proponent for the extended netting that we have at Miller Park and that the vast majority of parks around the entire league,” he said.
“That has prevented a number of situations that are now avoidable. Anything we can do to increase fan safety is certainly something the league as a whole is going to look into and be supportive of.”
