We know now that the Brewers will be experimenting with their infield position in 2019 after re-signing infielder Mike Moustakas to a deal.
The three-time All-Star batted .256 with 8 home runs and 33 RBI in 54 regular season games with the Brewers in 2018. He also added 8 hits and 3 RBI in the 2018 postseason.
He joined Greg Matzek on Wednesday night's Sports Central on WTMJ to talk about his return to the Crew.
Making the decision to sign in Milwaukee again wasn't a tough choice itself, according to the 30 year-old Moustakas. He likes to stay out of negotiations, and told Sports Central there wasn't anything extra to waiting until mid-February to re-sign.
When it came to the decision of actually being considered the full time second baseman, Moustakas acknowledged that it was a conversation he had with Craig Counsell when he was acquired in 2018. As for being on board this season, he says the goals of the team are what matters.
“What's great about me and Travis is that all we care about is getting 'Ws' and winning ballgames. I think that's one of the most beneficial things we've got going for us.”
As for the hundred or so other players with big league experience that are still unemployed, Moustakas explained to Matzek that he hopes that isn't something that becomes the norm.
“I don't know [if it's] broken or not broken, but it's definitely something that we need to figure out on all sides. There's some really great MLB players that aren't in camp right now, and that's unacceptable.”
But in the end, Moustakas is ready to hone his (somewhat) new craft.
“It'll be fun and interesting. Definitely going to take a lot of work to get 100 percent comfortable over there.”
