News of Wisconsin-based American Family Insurance's purchase of the naming rights of Miller Park was a shock to many Milwaukee Brewers fans Tuesday.
However, it's not shocking considering how the company, based in Madison, has dramatically expanded its naming rights footprint across the state.
Summerfest's Marcus Amphitheater, constructed originally in 1984, had its naming rights bought by American Family in 2017.
One year beforehand, the company put its name on the PGA Champions Tour event which began that year, played at University Ridge in Madison.
As far back as 2003, American Family donated $10 million to the University of Wisconsin's Children's Hospital in Madison and put its name on the hospital constructed in 2007.
Outside Wisconsin, American Family is also growing its national footprint, with sponsorship of the jerseys for MLS champion Atlanta United.
American Family Insurance's offer to the Brewers was reportedly “incredibly rich,” according to the Milwaukee Business Journal, a WTMJ news partner.
