Sen. Ron Johnson knows Joe Biden won the election but won’t admit it because it would be ‘political suicide,’ the senator reportedly told former Brown County GOP Chair Mark Becker.
In an article published on TheBulwark.com, Becker says Johnson told him the institutions of the country’s democracy are strong enough to withstand what is going on.
“It was really frustrating,” Becker told WTMJ’s Steve Scaffidi on Wednesday. “Sen. Johnson is not a bad person. But he’s perpetuating something that is really dangerous to the fabric of our democracy and it’s not ok. We need to come back to reality here.”
Becker, an admitted Never-Trumper, believes there are state republicans who also refuse to accept the outcome of the election. But he says there are exceptions.
“Majority Leader Jim Steineke, (former) State Rep. John Nygren, they are fantastic individuals. Incredible integrity,” he said. “We need to have that type of representation at all levels. If it’s not coming from the highest Republican in the state, then that sucks.”
“It’s up to people like Ron Johnson to set the tone. Joe Biden won.”
WTMJ reached out to Sen. Johnson’s office, but have not heard back. In a statement to the Journal Sentinel, Johnson’s office called Becker’s article a ‘political hit piece.’
